Contributions to medicine: Brian Weinerman was the first oncologist at the St. Boniface Hospital and in cooperation with the Cancer Care Manitoba (Then the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Fd) established an Oncology Treatment Center at the St. Boniface as part of Cancer Care Manitoba. In 1980 he became head of the dept. of Medicine at St. Boniface Hospital and vice head of the University Dept. He was also chair of the investigational new drug committee of the National Cancer Institute of Canada’s clinical Trials Group for 12 years. In 1993 he went to Victoria to become the Regional Vice President of the BC Cancer Agency in Victoria and Director of the Cancer Centre in Victoria as well as head of Oncology for the Vancouver island health Authority. While there he developed Telemedicine in Oncology for the Island which is still used today. In 2005 he became head of the Dept of Medicine at the Vancouver island health Authority and during that time developed a clinical teaching unit in internal medicine which did not exist there before in cooperation with UBC and the medical school branch in Victoria. He has had numerous publications and a book chapter on Telemedicine in Oncology which was evaluated in a clinical trial.
